4. FIRST AID MEASURES

INHALATION: Remove from the contaminated atmosphere. The likely symptom will be irritation of the mucous membrane but in case of doubt or severe exposure seek medical attention. INGESTION: Rinse mouth and give plenty of water to drink. DO NOT induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical attention.
SKIN: Remove contaminated clothing taking care not to transfer the material to unaffected areas. Wash affected area with copious amounts of water. Seek medical attention if burn persists.
EYES: Immediately wash the eyes for at least 15 minutes with water, followed by boric acid solution holding the eyelid open. Seek immediate medical attention.
In all cases where medical attention is sought, show the Doctor this data sheet.

4. MEDIDAS DE PRIMEROS AUXILIOS

INHALACI ON: Salir de la atmosfera contaminada. Los síntomas serán irritación de las membranas mucosas pero en caso de duda o exposición severa buscar ayuda médica.
INGESTION: Enjuagar, aclarar la boca y beber gran cantidad de agua. NO INDUCIR AL VÓMITO. Buscar ayuda médica INMEDIATAMENTE.
PIEL: Retirar la ropa contaminada teniendo cuidado de no transferir el material a partes no contaminadas. Lavar las áreas afectadas con gran cantidad de agua. Buscar ayuda médica si la quemadura persiste.
OJOS: Lavar los ojos con abundante agua limpia durante 15 minutos mínimo seguido de una solución de ácido bórico manteniendo el ojo abierto. En todos los casos donde sea necesario la ayuda médica mostrar al Doctor este manual de seguridad.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

This material will not burn. Do not allow run off water to enter water courses or sewers. Notify the appropriate authorities if pollution has occurred.
Decomposition products are not hazardous.

Este material no quemará. No permitir que entre en cursos de agua o desagues. Notificar a las autoridades si produce un derrame accidental.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS: When dealing with a spill note the recommendations in Section 7.
ENVIRONMENTAL: Do not allow the material to directly enter sewers without neutralising. Do not allow to enter surface water courses.
SPILLAGE: Neutralise small amounts with dilute Hydrochloric Acid and flush into sewer. Shovel up larger amounts into steel or plastic containers and dispose as Special waste in consultation with the local Waste Disposal Authority. Wash the contaminated area with dilute Hydrochloric Acid and flush into sewer.

MEDIOAMBIENTALES: Evitar la entrada en desagües sin haber neutralizado la disolución, No permitir la entrada en cursos de agua superficiales.
SALPICADURAS: Neutralizar pequeñas cantidades con ClH y eliminar por los desagues. Acumular cantidades grandes en depósitos de acero o plástico y eliminar como residuos especiales de acuerdo con las Leyes Locales. Lavar las zonas contaminadas con ClH diluido y enviar por los desagues.

7.HANDLING AND STORAGE

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Store in the dry in closed containers remote from foodstuffs. Store in accordance with HSE Guidance Note CS17. Where appropriate refer to the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. Do not allow to come into contact with Aluminium, Zinc, Magnesium or their alloys. Use the material in a manner least likely to create dust. When making additions to working solutions, allow the soIution to cool first. Otherwise, due to localised boiling there is a high risk of splashback.

7. MANEJO Y ALMACENAMIENTO

Evitar contacto con piel y ojos. Almacenar en lugar seco en contenedores lejos de comida. Almacenar de acuerdo con la Guía HSE CS17.No permitir el contacto con aluminio, Zinc, Magnesio o sus aleaciones. Utilizar el producto de forma que la producción de polvo sea mínima. Cuando se añada producto a la disolución se debe permitir que esta se enfríe, de otro modo, se podrían producir ebulliciones localizadas con riesgo de salpicaduras.

8.EXPOSURE OONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

Occupational Exposure Limits: Sodium Hydroxide 15 min. ref. period 2 mgm^-3 (EH40/94)
Use local exhaust ventilation to control dust or steam from process tanks. Dust masks should be used for occasional exposure but must be changed frequently to avoid concentration of caustic particles on the face. Foresee possibility of the necessity to rinse the eyes or skin in an emergency. Provide eye wash and hose or shower facilities. Protect hands with PVC gloves, protect eyes with goggles or face mask. Wear clean overalls and alkali resistant boots. NOTE: Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 apply.

8. CONTROL DE LA EXPOSICIÓN Y PROTECCION PERSONAL

Límite máximo de exposición: NaOH (puro) 15 min. Periodo de referncia 2 mg/m³ (EH40/94)

Utilizar ventilación del local para controlar polvo o vapor de los tanques de procesado. Mascaras antipolvo deberían de ser utilizadas para exposiciones ocasionales pero deberían de ser cambiadas habitualmente para evitar la concentración de partículas causticas sobre la cara. Disponer de duchas y lavaojos de seguridad. Proteger las manos con guantes de PVC. Proteger los ojos con mascaras y utilizar botas resistentes a los álcalis.

NOTA: Se debe aplicar el Reglamento de Seguridad en el trabajo para la utilización de Equipos de protección individual.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

Absorbs moisture and Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere. Exothermic reaction with water. Considerable heat is generated. Reacts with Aluminium, Magnesium with Hydrogen evolution. Hydrogen can form explosive mixtures in air.

This product contains surfactants considered by our suppliers to be >80% biodegradable when tested by the OECD screening test which satisfies EEC directives 82/242 and/or 82/243. This product contains no substance classified as Dangerous for the Environment in the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging) Regulations 1993.

13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATION

Solutions of this material may be disposed of by means of an effluent treatment plant capable of neutralising and reducing the waste to within the consent limit imposed by the local water authority. Note dissolved oils and metals will form part of that limit. In the case of the powdered material or solutions outside the limits for disposal by the sewer, the waste is classed as Special Waste by the Control of Pollution (Special Waste) Regulations 1980 and must be disposed of by a licensed waste disposal contractor. All residues must be removed from packaging prior to disposal as controlled waste.

13.CONSIDERACIONES PARA LA DEPOLUCIÓN

La eliminación de este material debe ser realizada a través de una planta de tratamiento de residuos capaz de neutralizar y reducir los mismos a los limites impuestos por las Legislaciones locales. Los aceites y metales disueltos formarán parte de estos límites. En el caso de que los materiales a eliminar sobrepasen los límites, estos residuos son clasificados como residuos especiales por la Regulación del Control de Polución (Residuos Especiales) de 1980 y debe ser eliminado por un agente autorizado. Todos los residuos deben ser eliminados del embalaje antes de ser eliminados como residuos controlados.
